The Batrachomyomachia is a Hellenistic or later Homeric parodic epic about a battle between frogs and mice. This short and delightful Greek poem is made accessible to intermediate learners and those new to the Homeric dialect through this new learner's edition. Each left-hand page contains a section of the Greek text and a small illustration, the facing right-hand page contains all the corresponding vocabulary and notes on grammar and content. The core vocabulary contains all the words that appear four or more times.

Creating a Steadman-style reader

Here’s some thoughts on creating a Steadman style reader, based on my experiences making the Batrachomyomachia reader with Bella: Have a set of common words you will not gloss everytime. We used TLG to generate that list, excluding words that appeared at least four times. Pick a page structure. You might choose facing page, with a set number of lines on the left page and vocab and notes on the right, or same page (like Pharr), with text, vocab, and notes on the same page. Same page is less elegant but gives more flexibility for the amount of notes.  Work page by page. We had Word docs for each separate pair of pages, but you could probably do it in a single doc. A sample pair of pages are accessible here . Have a style guide and reach consensus on your style (e.g.  λίχνος, η, ον or λίχνος, -η, -ον? Should notes end with a period?) Use a python script to create the vocab list. Clone this script , update the stop words as is appropriate, and copy and paste each page’s text into the text
